The BBC Press Office issued a release on Tuesday noting that
Torchwood a) had been renewed for a second series of 13 episodes and
b) would have its first broadcast moved to BBC Two when Series 2

Congratulations to Torchwood on reaching this milestone. For readers
outside the UK, BBC Two can be seen on analogue television as well as
digital television - nearly everyone in the UK can get BBC Two. BBC
Three is a digital terrestrial station - somewhere around 70% of
viewers have BBC Three on Freeview, Cable, Sky, or Freesat. (Analogue
TV cuts off in 2012 - the playing field should be more level then.)
Shows that move from BBC Three to BBC Two (or BBC Two to BBC One) for
their first broadcast typically see ratings increase, as people stick
with the stations they've had longer.
If you're watching Torchwood on the Wednesday BBC 2 broadcast, note
these regional variations.
The 13 and 20 December broadcasts of Torchwood air at 9PM GMT with
the following exceptions:
BBC 2 Wales Digital - 9:10PM start time.
BBC Three will premiere episode 11 (Combat) on Christmas Eve at
9:30PM. BBC Three will premiere the last 2 episodes (Captain Jack
Harkness and Apocalypse) on New Years Day (a Monday airing, all
previous episodes were Sunday) from 9:30PM to 11:05PM. The episodes
will repeat multiple times on BBC Three. Captain Jack Harkness will
air as a standalone episode on 4 January at 9PM and 1AM. Apocalypse
will air as a standalone episode on 5 January at 9PM and 12:30AM.
BBC HD will premiere episode 11 on Christmas Eve at 11:10PM.
BBC Two will premiere episode 11 on Wednesday 27 December at 10PM.
BBC Two will premiere the last 2 episodes on Wednesday 3 January from
9PM to 10:30PM.
